Doclio on Site: Phone, Tablet, and No-Signal Areas
Doclio runs on the device you already carry. The same app that manages your full drawing set at the office works on a phone or tablet on site β view the latest revision, drop annotations, take photos, update statuses, and run inspections without going back to the ute for a laptop.
Works on Any Device, No App Store Required
Doclio is a web app that installs as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, and Mac. Installing gives you a home-screen icon, a full-screen view with no browser bar, and faster startup β and updates arrive automatically, with no app store approval delays.
See Installing Doclio as an App for the two-tap install steps per device.
What Field Crews Actually Do in Doclio
- Check the current drawing. The drawing set on your phone is the same live set the office manages β no printed supersessions, no emailing "is this the latest rev?"
- Raise and close out defects. Drop a pin on the drawing, attach a photo straight from the camera, assign it, and set a status. The office sees it immediately.
- Run inspections. Work through ITP checklists on a tablet at the hold point instead of transcribing paper forms later.
- Answer questions on the spot. The Doclio Assistant works on mobile too β ask about specs, revisions, or project details while standing in front of the work (requires signal).
When the Signal Drops
Construction sites are not always connected, and Doclio is built for that:
- Everything you open while online is cached automatically β a drawing you viewed yesterday opens today in a basement with zero bars.
- Save for offline pre-downloads an entire project's drawings and annotation data before you head somewhere remote, so even files you have never opened are guaranteed available.
- Pinned projects re-sync in the background when you reconnect β new drawings added while you were away download automatically.
Set Up Before You Leave for Site
- Install Doclio to your home screen (how)
- Open the project and tap Save for offline (how)
- On site: view drawings, plan the day, note anything that needs entering
- Back on signal: enter updates β pinned projects re-sync automatically
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a native iOS or Android app?
No β and that is deliberate. Doclio installs from the browser as a PWA, so every device runs the identical, always-current app. There is no separate cut-down mobile version and nothing to update through an app store.
Can I view drawings with no internet connection?
Yes. Any drawing you opened while online is cached on the device, and Save for offline pre-downloads a whole project for guaranteed access.
Can I log defects or comments offline?
Not yet. Offline mode is read-only and offline changes are not queued β jot notes and enter them when you reconnect. Queued offline edits are on the roadmap.
Does the phone show the same drawings as the desktop?
Yes β one platform, one live drawing set. Phones and tablets get the same projects, revisions, annotations, and reports as the desktop, with a touch-friendly layout.
